Join us for the release of this small batch cider collaboration with the Old Fort! Pizza provided by Sweetwater Gypsies! 70 hundred-year-old trees and 100 one-year old trees make up the apple orchard at the OldFort at Hesperus. Growing at 7600’, these old varieties of apples and crabapples are selectedfor their hardiness. Some are specifically cider varieties!The Old Fort harvests the apples for its markets, including Fort Lewis College’s dining hall, CSAshares, and onsite Country Store. Some of the trees grow incredibly delicious eating apples.Now, thanks to MORP’s DNA testing and a Colorado Specialty Crop Grant, we finally know thenames of each variety!Raise your glasses to agriculture and local food culture, old and new
